Sanz: CARTO tutorial

Date & time: Wednesday 21 September 2016, 09.00-13.30

Objective:  This tutorial wil present both CARTO Builder and Engine so attendants can get a general overview of what can be done with our offering.

General description: CARTO (formerly CartoDB) is not just a visualization engine but a powerful location intelligence platform. CARTO Builder is a new web interface for processing that hides the complexities of Spatial SQL to the wider audience. Still, we think it's also a valuable tool for data scientists and all kinds of users for exploring and discovery. On this session we will see the general interface and some of the analysis available on this product and how anyone can publish quickly great maps on the web.

CARTO Builder is an interface, the tip of the iceberg that is the CARTO Engine. The second part of the tutorial will cover the main APIs to interact with your CARTO account and how to use them from our JavaScript SDK.

An open discussion about how to integrate CARTO Engine with R would be great, looking forward for your comments!

Required back-ground knowledge: A general geospatial knowledge (formats, projections, etc) is desirable. Web development experience (HTML/CSS/JS) would be great but our examples will be easy enough to follow.

Software / R packages required: A modern browser and a good text editor will be more than enough. Having the Postman application will help on trying our APIs.
